How to Overcome the Obstacles of Becoming a New Manager

Realize that you are still part of the team.
Making the transition from your previous position to manager can come with its own set of challenges, such as feeling singled out sometimes. You were so used to working with a certain group of people each day and with this new promotion may have also came a new office and less time with the people you were used to seeing every day. Just because you have a new title, that doesn't make you any less a part of the team. Remember that.

Find a way to address issues your team is having while still getting all your tasks done.
When you become a manager, you take on a whole new set of responsibilities and one of those may be having to listen to the individual problems your team members are having. Whether that means one team member is having a personal conflict with another or one team member is simply feeling overwhelmed. If your team members are having problems, then you are having problems, because ultimately their progress can reflect on you. Get organized and find a way to make it all work.

Trust your team and avoid becoming a micromanager right from the start.
A good manager aims to develop their employees and help them grow their careers. You can't really do that if you are constantly butting in their work and not allowing them to learn from their mistakes, that's how people grow.

Maintain your confidence.
As you become a new manager, you may feel pressure from your bosses to perform quickly. Do not let that pressure get to you. They picked you for a reason, so always remember that.

Don't be afraid to ask for help when you need it.
Just because you're a manager now, doesn't mean you're perfect, no one is. So ask for help when you need it. That's human and perfectly normal.

Becoming a new manager is quite the accomplishment and you should feel proud of yourself. It doesn't hurt to make sure you are doing everything correctly, when it comes to the world of HR, as a manager, so brush up on your HR basics. Call Kmet Consulting today at 877-783-5638.
