The Fundamentals of Hiring the Right Employees
Have you had trouble hiring the right kind of people to work at your company? Perhaps you have noticed a trend of new employees leaving within the first six months of working there? Maybe you’ve noticed a trend of negativity in the workplace? These could all be signs of not hiring the right people to work at your company. Have no fear though, Kmet Consulting is here to help. Our HR consulting company specializes in training hiring managers and business owners on the fundamentals of hiring the right employees. If you are interested in that service for your company, call Kmet Consulting at 877-783-5638. Here are a few tips for hiring the right kind of employees.
1. Clearly define the job in the job description
Many employees may leave a job within the first year because it wasn’t what they thought it was going to be. If a job is not clearly described in the description or the interview, then how will an employee know what they are truly getting into?
2. Determine how compatible this person is with your company
There’s only so many questions you can ask in an interview to determine someone’s compatibility with your company. To better see how compatible someone is, try bringing them in for a day of job shadowing. Let them converse with your current employees and see how they do.
3. Really get to know the potential job candidate
Sometimes people will “open up” more when you put them in an environment they feel more comfortable in. Try having lunch with this potential job candidate instead of the typical office interview. See if they are kind to the server and if they are courteous by opening doors into the restaurant for other people. Do they have manners? You can determine all of this by having a quick lunch with the potential hire.
4. Check the job candidate’s social media.
Do a quick online search and see what this person posts on social media. If they have been posting many inappropriate things, then the odds are they are NOT the right person to be working at your company. Eliminate that kind of job candidate quickly.
5. Ask the right questions
Don’t be afraid to ask the tough questions, such as:
“How do you handle conflict in the workplace and can you give me an example?”
See how they think on their feet and if they are the right kind of employee you want working for you.
