You just scored an interview for your dream job! You are very excited but also very nervous. Don’t worry, our experienced HR consulting firm has you covered. Kmet Consulting understands how difficult interviewing for a new job can be. It can be scary and intimidating, but there are a few steps you can try that can help make this stressful process a bit easier for you. In this blog, we will give you 7 steps to take to better prepare for a job interview.
Read the job description carefully. Determine what the required skills are and make a list. Bring the job description to the interview! You may be asked about it.
Once you have created your list of required skills, create a list of your own assets and what you bring to the table. Match your assets to the required skills of the job. Bring this list to the interview and you can use the list to speak to the interviewer about how you are perfect for the job.
Do your homework on the company you are applying to work at. Your interviewer may ask you some questions about their company and you’ll want to be able to answer them accurately.
Ask a friend to role play with you and ask you some commonly asked interview questions. This can help you settle your nerves.
Dress professionally! Don’t wait until the last minute to prepare your wardrobe. No matter what job you are interviewing for, first impressions mean a lot!
There’s nothing worse than running late for your interview because you got lost. Take the time to research the directions ahead of time. Also, it doesn’t hurt to make a test run and drive by the company the day before so you will know where you are going ahead of time.
You can never be too prepared for a job interview, carry extra resumes, a list of questions to ask the interviewer, a list of references, paper to take notes on, and something to write with.
Don’t bring:
• your cell phone into the interview, or at least turn it off
• a cup of coffee
• gum
• anything else beyond yourself and your credentials
